The Sound of Continued Musical Education

As a musical professional, you might be thinking, “Why even bother with continuing education?

Picture this: College days, hitting the books on organizational management but sneaking in those cheeky music electives. Sure, I didn’t have that glamorous music tech degree under my belt, but those electives? They were a revelation. A peek into the vast universe of music production, and, spoiler alert: I was smitten.

The basic principles of music? They're timeless. Whether you’re grooving to Bach or head-bobbing to techno, sound is energy and always travels in waves. And the pitch? It's all about frequency.

Yet, the technological world of music is like quicksilver – constantly evolving.

One moment, you're getting the hang of the latest software, and the next, your “programming is interrupted by…” another update. Or perhaps you find the musical landscape shifting, suddenly favoring a genre you're not too jazzed about but that’s super trendy now.

But through these changing times, one thing stands firm: the spirit of you as an artist. It's crucial to keep that creative flame alive and moving. And keeping up with educational platforms helps you do just that. You're always in the loop, understanding the latest trends, tools, and tech. And trust me, there’s nothing quite like the adrenaline rush when you uncover a new way to shape your sound. For me? It was the magic of mid-side EQ – a revolutionary moment, like stumbling upon a new word that perfectly encapsulates your emotions.

Sound design is more than just noise

Diving into the details of sound design is like throwing yourself into a painting. You could give ten painters the same set of brushes and paints, and no two canvases would look alike. It's the same with music. The thrill lies in honing that signature sound. My personal journey had its bumps – a candid "You don’t know who you are" from an A&R session still rings in my ears. It was a bitter pill to swallow but an essential one. With time, education, and introspection, patterns began to emerge – certain textures, chords, and styles became evident, defining what would become my signature sound.

One size does not fit all

Drawing parallels from the world of fashion (yes, my guilty pleasure 💁🏻‍♀️), one thing's clear: universal fits are myths. We all have our unique learning rhythms. While I was the academically inclined girl who blossomed into a social butterfly, I've always loved the structured environment of a classroom. Without it, who knows? I might have been backpacking in a remote country, dabbling in yet five new hobbies simultaneously.

So, what keeps me grounded? The thrill of collective learning in music.

It’s not just about hitting the right notes; it's about sharing insights, discussing nuances, and feeding off the passion of fellow enthusiasts. Whether it's swapping keyboard shortcuts or sharing fresh music finds, I thrive in this electric atmosphere. And seeing a familiar face achieving their dreams in the music world? I am genuinely overjoyed.

Everyone’s journey is unique. From the ones who've grown up with swanky studios in their basements to the self-taught YouTube prodigies, or those who’ve been wrapped in sheet music since they were toddlers. But amidst this collective of stories, one fact stands out – we're all incredibly unique in this space.

Bottom line? Stay in the groove, keep those skills razor-sharp, and always – always – cherish and nurture your evolving uniqueness.
